Ecce Homo

Performa 17 BIENNAL NYC

A man and a woman stand off in poetic battle, holding between them a double sided mirror using only their body weight and pressure to keep it from falling. If either loses their step or fails to resist, both will fall and the illusion shattered. The struggle with the image transforms with time into a battle of spirit and energy as physical exhaustion takes its toll. Neither can see the other and stares blindly at the reflected image of their own naked torso, cut at the waist with the legs of their partner in an androgynous portrait of Ritualised Resistance.

A/political and Rua Red are delighted to announce a major partnership. Over the next year, a series of exhibitions will see many of the contemporary art world’s foremost socially and politically engaged artists respond to the unique context of South Dublin County. The partnership will mark the beginning of the new programme at Rua Red, under the Directorship of Maoliosa Boyle

a/political collaborates with artists on projects previously thought unrealisable due to their scale, logistics or uncompromising subject matter. For the inaugrual exhibition, opening this Autumn, Rua Red will host the first public presentation of works from the a/political collection, curated by the pioneering performance artist Franko B. The exhibition will include key works from artists such as Barbara Kruger, Kendell Geers, Gustav Metzger and Santiago Sierra, on display in Ireland for the first time.
